Torrevieja (Costa Blanca) has been growing rapidly since the early 90's, with holidays homes and permanent residences driving the expansion. The attractions are obvious, great weather, relatively cheap property and easy access, via the motorway or Alicante and Murcia airports. Torrevieja has few hotels, so the tourism is more family orientated than some of Spain's brasher resorts. Yet there is still something for everybody, quiet beaches can still be found, plenty of family or music bars, discos, good sports facilities, a varied selection of local and international shops and plenty of very dry sunny days. Torrevieja is surrounded by water, the Mediterranean to the east and the famous salt lagoons to the west, this helps keep the climate extremely mild in the winter. Indeed the holiday season seems to get longer each year, especially with golfers enjoying the fine courses nearby in the winter sunshine. The "expats" (especially the British, Germans and Scandanavians) have brought with them everything you would expect to find, from specialist restaurants, takeaways and businesses to just about any social club you could wish for. If you don't want a "sunday roast" there are still plenty of fine Spanish restaurants where you can sample the local cuisine.
